Allpix Squared 2.0 Released

After more than 3.5 years of continuous development and countless feature and patch releases of the Allpix Squared 1.x series, we are proud to announce the second major release of the framework, Allpix Squared 2.0. This version contains more than 1500 commits over the last feature release 1.6 and brings major improvements in many areas as detailed below. Among them is a major rework of the framework core, introducing an efficient multithreading functionality including full reproducibility, as well as a large number of new features and physics simulation models.
As usual, the release is available as Docker image, CVMFS installation, binary tarball and source code from the repository.
We would like to use this opportunity for a few laudatory words.
- First of all, we would like to extend our gratitude to the by now 34 contributors and former developers as well as the countless users for their continued input to the development, be it through actual code or through fruitful discussions and suggestions on the implementation of different features.
- Furthermore, we would like to thank the two Google Summer of Code students, Viktor Sonesten and Mohamed Moanis Ali, who have contributed significantly to the new multithreading capabilities.
It took a while for your code to land in
master, but here it is! - Last but not least, we would like to thank Koen Wolters, one of the bedrocks of the Allpix Squared development who laid the foundation of the framework and until today - despite leaving the field and taking up a full-time job - continues to contribute code, to review merge requests and to make suggestions for improvements of the tool in his spare time. Thank you very much!
We would also like to advertise our second User Workshop, which will be held fully virtually from 17 August 2021 to 19 August 2021. Please register and submit an abstract to present your use case of Allpix Squared.

Patch Release 1.6.2

We are happy to announce the next patch release Allpix Squared, version 1.6.2 which contains 70 commits over the previous patch version 1.6.1. It fixes issues mostly related to the CI as well as some corner cases in a few modules. This patch release contains patches from two new contributors - thank you and welcome!

We are happy to announce the first release of 2021, the patch release Allpix Squared, version 1.6.1 which contains 30 commits over the feature version 1.6. It fixes a few corner cases concerning the very late arrival of particles from Geant4 and the handling of Monte Carlo particle information. This patch release contains patches from one new contributor - welcome to the team!

We are happy to announce a new stable feature release Allpix Squared version 1.6 with a total of 736 commits added to the repository by NINE contributors since version 1.5. The release tarball can be downloaded from the repository:

The new version is also available as docker image in the project’s docker registry, as read-to-use version on CVMFS and as binary release from the website.

We are happy to announce a new stable feature release Allpix Squared version 1.5 with a total of 504 commits added to the repository by ten contributors since version 1.4. The release tarball can be downloaded from the repository:

Changes in the Core Development Team
Our main developer Simon Spannagel recently moved from CERN to DESY, Germany, remaining within the field of silicon detector research. We are thus very happy that he took his responsibilities with him and remains main developer of Allpix Squared. In addition, we welcome Paul Schütze (DESY) in the main developer team, who has been an early-stage adopter and long-term active developer.
